Awesome Maties victorious again

Varsity Cup champions, FNB Maties, claimed a third successive Western Province Super League victory – beating NNK 66-0 at Coetzenburg on Saturday afternoon.

The students – who have also won three successive Varsity Cup titles – scored 10 tries against their opponents from Parow and it could well have been more.

Flyhalf André Kemp (pictured, right), who had such a prolific Varsity Cup campaign, scored two tries and kicked ten conversions against NNK – but the Stellenbosch front row of Johan Roets, Matthew Dobson and Lourens Adriaanse set the platform with a powerful performance.

Stellenbosch now have 15 points from three matches in the 2010 Super League – having beaten Victorians, Villager’s and, now, NNK – and they are in first position on the log.

With defending Super League champions, Hamilton’s, suffering another loss this weekend (to Villager’s), the Maties are looking like the early favourites to once again qualify for the National Club Championships later this year – unless UCT can cause an upset when they meet in early May.

Maties’ scorers:
Tries:
Kemp 2, Groepes, Steyl, Laker, Booysen, Adendorf, Pretorius, Dobson, White
Cons: Kemp 8

Other WP Super League results:
UCT 50 Victorians 23
False Bay 43 Helderberg 29
SK Walmers 29 Durbell 37
Villager’s 38 Hamiltons 31
