Clinical Maties do it again

The Maties claimed another win over the Ikey Tigers, this time a 31-18 WP Super League win at the Danie Craven Stadium in Coetzenburg.

Stellenbosch led 19-18 going into the final ten minutes, before the home side managed two more tries to seal the win – continuing their unbeaten run over UCT since the 2008 Varsity Cup.

The Ikeys scored three tries on Wednesday night – through fullback Ricky Rijs, left-wing Marcello Sampson and outside centre Marcel Brache, with the Maties grabbing yet another bonus point win.

“There were some great moments in the game and I thought we played very well in the second half,” said Ikeys coach Kevin Foote on uctrfc.co.za.

“We had them, but (we) missed the kick to take the lead… then we lost the kick-off and they got into our 22 and scored.

“The margins are not big at this level, but you need to take your chances and keep your mistakes to a minimum at all times.”

Both Stellenbosch and UCT will be in action again this weekend – the former against Durb-Bell and the latter against NNK.
