Maties smash Durbanville

The FNB Maties recorded yet another convincing WP Super League win – beating Durbanville 31-16 this past Wednesday.

It was Stellenbosch’s fourth successive league win this season, having also recorded victories over Victorians, Villager’s and NNK in recent weeks – not long after claiming their third Varsity Cup title in a row.

Scrumhalf Johan Herbst (pictured) – who scored a brace against Villager’s nearly two weeks ago – was in the tries once again, scoring a hat-trick against Durbanville as the Men in Maroon took another step towards qualifying for the 2010 National Club Championships.

Flyhalf André Kemp was also in the points again, slotting all four conversions on the night and also adding a penalty goal – that after the Maties found themselves 14-16 down at the break in Durbanville.

Maties’ scorers:
Tries:
Herbst 3, Strauss
Cons: Kemp 4
Pen: Kemp

* Meanwhile, Stellenbosch’s second team, Victorians, went down 12-32 to Hamilton’s in WP Super League action – also on Wednesday.

The young Vics side managed just two tries against a rampant Hamilton’s side – the Men from Green Point no doubt still reeling from losses to False Bay and Villager’s.
