Another biggie for ruthless Pukke

Triple Varsity Cup semifinalists, FNB Pukke, racked up yet another impressive Grand Challenge victory at the weekend – this time beating the University of Witwatersrand by 65-20.

Lock, and captain, Dirco Rautenbach scored a try double on Friday evening, as did outside centre Ruan Jacobs, No.8 PJ van Zyl (pictured) and replacement Gerhard Nortier.

Wits, despite playing at home, had no answer to the pace and power of the Men from Potchefstroom, whose other tries were scored by No.12 Wouter Watermeyer, replacement back Johannes Seerane and Varsity Cup stalwart, scrumhalf Andries Mahoney.

Fullback Malan van der Merwe converted just five of his team’s 11 tries – which means the scoreline could have been even bigger.

Pukke’s scorers:
Tries:
Ruan Jacobs 2, Dirco Rautenbach 2, PJ van Zyl 2, Gerhard Nortier 2, Wouter Watermeyer, Johannes Seerane, Andries Mahoney
Cons: Malan van der Merwe 5
