Final delight for Tiaan Jonker
Tiaan Jonker will referee the 2010 Varsity Cup Final between FNB Maties and FNB UCT at Stellenbosch’s Danie Craven Stadium on Monday evening. (Kick-off 6.30pm.)
Jonker is on the Provincial panel, which places him well within the top 20 referees in South Africa. As is the case with all SA Rugby’s competitions, the referees are chosen on merit for their performances in that specific competition.
“There are some fantastic referees in the Varsity Cup, so it’s a huge honour for me (to have been appointed) to referee the final,” Jonker told varsitycup.co.za.
François Veldsman and Marc van Zyl will assist Jonker in the final, with Shaun Veldsman serving as the television match official.
The younger brother of Test referee Marius Jonker, Tiaan is a member of the Golden Lions Referees’ Society. Jonker, 34, works as an attorney in Johannesburg.
