In-form Tuks blitz Brits

Varsity Cup semifinalists, FNB Tuks, claimed a whopping 99-5 Carlton League win over a shell-shocked Brits outfit at the weekend.

Tuks – who lost to eventual winners, the Maties in the semifinals of the 2009 FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International – were in control from the start against Brits; running in 15 tries – 12 of which were converted.

To their credit, Brits did not give up and they were able to come away with a try of their own – but it was not enough against the rampant Men from Pretoria.

Tuks consolidated their place at the top of the Carlton League log with this, their sixth, win of the season.

Last week, Tukkies claimed a big 45-11 win over the third-placed Naka Bulle and they are running into some vintage form ahead of the 2009 National Club Championships, which they will be hosting in September.

The Tuks team: 15 Fanie Booysen, 14 Hein Pretorius, 13 Gerrit Smit, 12 Bennie Bester, 11 Pieter Gothan, 10 Stanley Twiname, 9 Wesleigh Marais, 8 Quinten Skewes, 7 Louis van Biljon, 6 Juan Palm, 5 Erich van der Westhuizen, 4 Johan de Bruin (captain), 3 Danie Oosthuizen, 2 Kurt Haupt, 1 Ettienne Breytenbach.
Replacements: 16 Chris Crous, 17 Jacques Botha, 18 Peet Botma, 19 AJ Prinsloo, 20 Danie Crous, 21 Louis Boshoff, 22 Gert Lubbe.
