In-form UJ make it two from two

FNB UJ picked up a second successive away win in the Pirates Grand Challenge – beating Pirates 34-15 on their turf on Friday night.

The Johannesburg students were too strong for Pirates in every facet of play – just a few days after beating fellow Varsity Cup team, FNB Pukke, in Potchefstroom.

Flyhalf André Smith, whose option-taking was very good against Pirates, also contributed 19 points via his accurate right boot, whilst Lions fullback Earl Lewis picked up yet another five-pointer for UJ.

It has been a great few weeks for UJ, since narrowly missing out on the Varsity Cup semifinals in March.

Aside from beating Pukke last weekend, UJ also recently lost in the final of the annual Melrose Sevens – in Scotland – to fellow South Africans, Hamilton’s.

UJ’s scorers:
Tries:
Luan Steenkamp, Earl Lewis, Johan van Deventer
Cons: André Smith 2
Pens: Smith 4
DG: Smith
