Marutlulle up where he belongs
UJ hooker Edgar Marutlulle has, at last, been rewarded for his outstanding Varsity Cup form with a place on the Golden Lions’ bench – in what will be his first taste of Currie Cup Premier Division rugby.
The all-action No.2, a star performer in the Varsity Cup for some time – as well as the local Grand Challenge League in Johannesburg, will serve as Martin Bezuidenhout’s back-up and will certainly relish the opportunity of some Currie Cup game time against Western Province at Newlands.
Joining Marutlulle in the Lions side are UJ teammates, lock David Bulbring and back Jaco Taute, whilst Derick Minnie is also a former Varsity Cup star for the University of Johannesburg and reserve centre Pieter Engelbrecht is an ex-UCT star.
Of course, many of WP’s players will be well-known to Marutlulle and co., with the likes of Tim Whitehead, Paul Bosch, Conrad Hoffmann, Rynardt Elstadt and Martin Muller having all graduated from the Varsity Cup.
