The speech that fired Wits up
Wits pulled off a remarkable 22-13 victory over NWU-Pukke in Potchefstroom after trailing 7-13 at half-time. Wits ran in two second-half tries and five points via the boot of Gianni Lombard to score 15 unanswered points as they took down their first "big" team.
Beckerling got the second half scoring going when he bashed his way over to get the Johannesburg-based students back to within one point of their hosts. A Lombard penalty was followed by a Manuel Rass converted try that led to the massive victory.
The win ensured that Wits remain in touch to claim a top four spot, as they now sit in sixth place with 10 points from their five matches, just six points adrift of UJ – who are in fourth place.
After the match, a visibly fired up Beckerling stated that they went onto the field to prove something.
"We came out here to prove something and wanted to show the world what we are about here at Wits. Everyone doubted us but we stuck together like brothers and we really came and made a statement.
"We have a lot of games still to win, we believe in ourselves and want to make a point in this competition. This is not a once-off or a freakish aberration," he said.
While that speech blew up on social media, another one has surfaced and it shows just how much passion this young loose forward has as he delivered a heartfelt speech in the change room before they took to the field.
