Tukkies' teenage team

By Online Editors
Friday 30 Jan 2009

Youngster Jean Claude Roos will start at flyhalf for the University of Pretoria in their Varsity Cup opener against Pukke in Potchefstroom on Monday.

The teenage star is one of a few players expected to graduate from the school benches into first-class senior rugby, after starring for Waterkloof Hoërskool during their fine Beeld Trophy campaign last year.

But Roos, who boasts a booming boot, will have a potent midfield in Franco Booysen and Johan Jackson to help guide him through the early stages of his FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International career.

The Tukkies team, under the coaching of Freddie Grobler, will be captained by No.4 lock Johan de Bruin.

Tukkies: 15 Piet Piet Swart, 14 Elwyn Fransman, 13 Johan Jackson, 12 Franco Booysen, 11 Luvuyo Mhlobiso, 10 Juan Claude Roos, 9 Ignick Windvogel, 8 Devin Oosthuizen, 7 Gert Lubbe, 6 Danie Crous, 5 Duncan Naudé, 4 Johan de Bruin (captain), 3 Branco Visagie, 2 Kurt Haupt, 1 Ettienne Breytenbach.
Replacements: 16 Chris Crous, 17 Hein Viljoen, 18 Erich van der Westhuizen, 19 Ntokozo Mashele, 20 Christiaan van den Berg, 21 Kruger van Heerden, 22 Aaron Denenga.

Coach: Freddie Grobler
Assistant coaches: Cecil Botha, Jannie Robbertse

Kick-off: Monday, February 2, 6.45pm, Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds
