UJ just Luus out on hundred

FNB UJ, with flyhalf Ryno Luus in fine points-scoring form, narrowly missed out on racking up a 100-point scoreline in their 96-10 Grand Challenge win over Alberton on Saturday.

Luus, playing at flyhalf as he did during the latter stages of the 2010 Varsity Cup, missed just one kick at goal as he converted 13 of his team’s 14 tries.

He also picked up a try himself for a points-haul of 31 on the day – backing up Lions centre Walter Venter who scored a hat-trick of tries and Yssel Swanepoel and Derich Badenhorst – both of whom picked up a brace of tries.

Fullback Earl Lewis and hooker Edgar Marutlulle – both of whom, for some reason, are not part of the Golden Lions’ Currie Cup – also added tries to UJ’s impressive tally.

UJ have been in fine form of late – scoring a 46-7 Grand Challenge win over Impala last weekend.

UJ’s scorers:
Tries:
Walter Venter 3, Yssel Swanepoel 2, Derich Badenhorst 2, Earl Lewis, Edrich van Tonder, Lola Waka, Marnes van Huyssteen, Edgar Marutlulle, Ryno Luus, Aubrey Macdonald
Cons: Luus 13
