UJ secure home semifinal
The other semifinal will be in Stellenbosch with Maties taking on UP-Tuks.
Maties opened the scoring after five minutes when wing Brandon Asher-Wood went over for a nine-point try.
Two minutes later UJ flyhalf Divan Nel put is team on the board when he slotted a penalty to reduce the deficit to six points. That deficit was down to just three points ten minutes later when Nel converted another penalty.
The teams were all level after 21 minutes when Nel sent over a drop goal.
UJ then found their stride in the last ten minutes of the first half scoring two tries, including a nine pointer to go into the break 27-9 ahead.
There would be no further scoring until after the second strategy break when Nel converted his third penalty to give his team a 21-point lead going into the final 18 minutes of the game.
That lead would be extended a few minutes later when Caswell Khoza scored a try in the corner. Nel could not add the extras with the conversion, but UJ had a comfortable lead.
It was all UJ from then onwards with flank Etiene Oosthuizen finishing off a flowing move to go over for his team's fourth try.
Maties did have the last say with a try by Carlisle Nel just before full-time.
