Blikkies' slogan: 'Win, win, win!'
New Tuks head coach Blikkies Groenewald has only one slogan for the 2010 Carlton Cup Competition: ‘Win, win, win!’.
“After our disappointing performance in the Varsity Cup we are under a lot of pressure to turn things around in the Carlton Cup Competition,” Blikkies told the official TuksRugby website.
“And we can only get TuksRugby to start walking proud and tall again by reclaiming the title.
“There are two ways to go about it: we have to win the Carlton Cup in order to save TuksRugby from a disastrous season. And for this to realise all role players will have to make a huge step up as far as standards, discipline, performance, pride and passion are concerned.”
He added: “To get our house in order, we will unfortunately have to be cruel to be kind at first, as mediocrity can no longer be tolerated.
“Excellence must become the new buzzword. TuksRugby’s rich tradition is such that we can no longer be satisfied with just being above average at best. We’ll have to work harder, play harder and think harder. There is no other way to make it to the top.”
Blikkies’ vision for TuksRugby is to make selection for Tuks the pinnacle for any player, even those students contracted by the Blue Bulls Company.
“We need a new breed of players who will again be prepared to run through the proverbial wall just for the privilege of playing for Tuks. Proud players play proud rugby and get proud results.”
Tuks play Brits on Saturday in their second Carlton Cup fixture of the season. The team will only be finalised at training tonight (14 April).
