The side is second in the South African Shield with 11 points, but a five-point win over the Sharks will push them to the summit of the Shield and enhance their chances of retaining the title.

“There are no big or small games, but for us, the main thing is to get five points out of this game,” Bulls prop Steenekamp told reporters.

“As a team, we want to beat their team, regardless of who they field or who we field.”

Fresh from a hard-fought 33-32 win over Stormers in Cape Town, the Bulls are bracing for another tough derby.

The Sharks, powered by the Springbok front row of Ntuthuko Mchunu, Bongi Mbonambi and Trevor Nyakane, will be eager to get their team on the front foot and halt the Bulls’ momentum.

Although the Bulls pack heads into the fixture buoyed with confidence after dominating the Stormers last weekend, Steenekamp warned his pack to not rest on their laurels.

“As soon as you think you unbeatable that is when your hiding is on its way, especially in the scrum,” the Bok said.

“It [scrummaging] is a technical thing and the guys who have been in it will understand it. In one game, you can be on top and if you are not ready for the next game, you are going to be on the back foot.

“Last week’s scrum performance won’t help us for this week. Every scrum is a fight on its own. You have to be switched on otherwise you are quickly going to learn you are not the best.”

The Bulls will name their team to face the Sharks on Friday.
