Brits Ready To Blitz The World Cup
Brits has been playing for English Premiership club Saracens for for some time and will bring valuable Northern Hemisphere expierience to the Bok squad for the World Cup.
Brits stated that early in his career he was bitterly dissapointed at constantly being overlooked for the Bok squad and that by the end of 2011, when he left South Africa, he thought his time with the Springboks was up.
"I cant wait to be part of a World Cup and five my input," Brits told a media briefing.
Asked about what he brings to the Bok squad, he quipped: "The vibe".
"You dont just want to go to the World Cup, you want to go and have a massive impact. I know the conditions well, I know the Northern Hemisphere players and from a social point of view I can show the team around also," he added.
Now being one of the older guys in the team, he brings the excitement of a twenty-year-old and he enjoys having the tag of being an explosive hooker.
"I dont see myself as a first-, second- or third-choice hooker. When I get an opportunity I will use that opportunity to the best of my ability.
"I understand that I play a different style to other hookers, but thats what I believe my point of difference is," he added.
Brits stated that although he brings a touch of excitement to the front row , he understands that his primary duties are to throw correctly at the line-out, scrum well and making sure the backs get go forward ball.
"The build up has been good, from a training point of view it has been extremely tough, but also we have been doing a lot of mental training which has proved to be challenging," he added, when asked about the preparations to the tournament.
Brits said that the team has a quiet confidence about themselves and having the old heads in the squad certainly helps the team environment as they know what it takes to win the World Cup.
"There is an air of confidence, but you need that!. We didnt do well in the Rugby Championship but we have trained so hard to ensure that we are ready for this World Cup. The focus has always been the World Cup and not so much the Rugby Championship."
Asked about playing in England , in particular Twickenham Brits stated that there is a lot of singing & noise but it is one of the greatest stadiums in the world to play rugby at. Brits tells us that it is crucial to play a territorial game in the Northern Hemisphere, and forcing opposition to make mistakes in their own half.
"Ireland are the prime example of how to play winning rugby in the Northern Hemisphere, they force opposition to make mistakes inside their own half and then punish them," added Brits
Brits said that at this time of the year the weather changes and that the team needs to be prepared to play come sunshine, rain or snow.
