VIDEO: Springboks up for another award
NEWS: Siyamthanda Kolisi and his Springbok team are up for yet another award.
The World Cup-winning Boks have been nominated as Team of the Year in the #Laureus20 World Sports Awards.
The news was confirmed on Wednesday, as the lists of final nominations were revealed by Laureus.
The Boks, who won the 2019 World Cup in Japan, will be up against tough competition.
Among the other finalists is Jürgen Klopp’s Champions League-winning Liverpool side, a team who Kolisi is a huge fan off and visited back in December.
The USA women’s football team, who won the women’s World Cup, six-time Formula One world champions Mercedes-AMG Petronas, the first Canadian team to win the NBA Championship, the Toronto Raptors, and two-time FIBA World Cup winners, Spain’s men’s basketball team complete the finalists.
The latest nomination follows a string of awards for Kolisi and his team since their World Cup triumph.
Kolisi was voted the 2019 Rugby Union Writers’ Club personality of the year this week, he also received the prestigious World Peace and Sport Champion for 2019 award.
At the World Rugby Awards last year Rassie Erasmus was named as Coach of the Year, the Springboks were named Team of the Year and Pieter-Steph du Toit was named as World Player of the Year.
Kolisi also just lost out to marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge for the prestigious BBC Sports Personality’s World Sports Star of the Year.
