Onesemo twins named in Manusina World Cup squad

SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT: Twin sisters Christabelle and Demielle Onesemo have written themselves into the history books as the first set of twins and siblings to represent Samoa, having been named in the Manusina squad for the Women’s World Cup.

Samoa qualified for this World Cup courtesy of their second-place finish in World Rugby’s global WXV 3 competition for the first time since 2014.

Affectionately known as “Bella” and “Ella,” the Onesemo-Tuilaepa twins have been making headlines over the past year since they burst onto the rugby league scene, representing New Zealand in the Ahi Kā Aotearoa squad.

Now they’ve switched codes and countries, pulling on the blue jersey for Samoa with Manusina.

Both Christabelle and Demielle made their test debuts for Manusina in the Oceania Rugby Championship – contributing to Samoa’s win against Tonga.

At a special farewell dinner in the country’s capital, Apia, Lakapi Samoa named its 32-member squad to represent the country at the 2025 World Cup.

Samoa line up in Pool A and face opening matches against Australia in Manchester on August 23, then hosts world number one side England in Northampton on August 30, and the USA in York on September 6.

Having last competed in a World Cup in 2014, all 32 Samoan players are set to make their tournament debut in England. While some still have strong experience, coach Mataafa Ramsey Tomokino has also selected with an eye to the future.

“I’m very proud of these players who worked so hard to earn their place in the squad,” said Tomokino, who has assembled the squad in camp in Samoa for the past week.

Long-time captain Sui Pauaraisa added: “I am thrilled to lead this team of passionate women, and we will do our best to represent our beloved Samoa.”
