Barnes for Springbok-Puma Test

Wayne Barnes of England has been appointed by the International Rugby Board to referee the Test between South Africa and Argentina in Johannesburg on 9 August. This is a top match in which the top-ranked team in the world will play the third-ranked team.

Barnes recently referee the Final of the Guinness Premiership.

As this match is after 1 August, the new year of experimental law variations will have commenced. Barnes will be fairly new to the ELVs but will Australian assistance.

It may also be that the European clubs will allow the top Pumas to play for their country.
