Houston answers Wallaby SOS
Houston, currently on loan to the English Premiership outfit, Bath, will join the Wallabies for the historic encounter with Argentina at Twickenham on Saturday – the first ever Rugby Championship match at the famous stadium.
He replaces Sean McMahon, who has been ruled out for up to a month – following an ankle injury sustained in the Wallabies 10-18 loss to the Springboks in Pretoria at the weekend.
Houston has been in fine form since re-signing with the Reds. He also showed impressive form in the opening rounds of the National Rugby Championship, before making an immediate impact for Bath in the Premiership – scoring a try in his return match at Recreation Ground and receiving the Player of the Round award.
The Queensland Reds and Brisbane City No.8 has been on a short-term loan to Bath, following his return to Australia in May this year to advance his international and Super Rugby ambitions.
Wallaby coach Michael Cheika is now faced with the prospect of yet another back row combination.
McMahon joined fellow Wallabies No.8 David Pocock on the sidelines due to injury, with Houston and Wallabies rookie Lopeti Timani both in contention for selection this Saturday.
The Wallabies arrived in London on Monday, ahead of the Rugby Championship finale and World Cup semifinal replay against Argentina at Twickenham.
