Loffreda for USA Eagles?
Following the departure of the US Eagles’ coach, Eddie O’Sullivan, it seems that Argentinian Marcelo Loffreda is the favourite for the job.
Loffreda, who is 52, won 44 caps as a Puma centre, and then went on to become the most successful Puma coach ever, taking them to third spot in the 2007 Rugby World Cup. After that he coached Leicester Tigers until he was fired after a string of disappointing results in 2008.
He explained that he was contacted by the USA about being involved in coaching the Eagles. At their request he sent in his resume and has now again been contacted.
He was told that the USA was still looking for a coach and asked if he was still interested.
Loffreda reported that nothing had been confirmed, but said: “Personally, I am happy to be approached.
“It is an interesting challenge as the United States has the potential for greatness.”
