Pumas in San Juan warm-up
On Saturday at Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario in San Juan the Pumas play an invitation team chosen by the Confederación Sudamericana de Rugby (CONSUR).
It is all a part of warm-up and trial before the Pumas head north to prepare more directly for the World Cup with a match against Wales at Millennium Stadium and then the week after that a match against Worcester Warriors.
This match in San Juan is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the SA Juan Rugby Union. The two teams will play for the VISA Cup.
The CONSUR team is chosen from eight South American countries.
The Pumas are being captained by Felipe Contepomi, long a professional player in Europe and long a medical student in Ireland. He is still one of the world’s skilful players.
Notably absent is Juan Martín Hernández who meant so much to the Pumas in 2007 but who suffered a serious knee injury in March. Others missing are Álvaro Galindo and Juan Manuel Leguizamón who have thigh injuries, Manuel Carizza who is getting over an injury to his left leg and Gonzalo Tiesi who has an injury to his right shoulder.
