Tiese gets Puma recall

Veteran midfielder Gonzalo Tiesi has been recalled to the Argentinean squad for their year-end tour of Europe.

The 27-year-old centre won the last of his 29 caps against England at the 2011 World Cup, but his campaign was cruelly cut short by injury.

As a result he also missed the inaugural Rugby Championship.

However, he has been rewarded for his fine form for San Isidro Club with a place in the tour party.

Tiesi played for a number of European outfits – including Harlequins, London Irish  and Stade Francais – before he returned to Argentina, where he is a member of the San Isidro club.

Argentina, who will play Wales (November 10), France (November 17) and Ireland (November 24), will be without the retired Rodrigo Roncero and the injured Martin Rodriguez.

Coach Santiago Phelan said: "We face the challenge of three more demanding matches, on tour playing as visitors.

"We have to keep growing as we did in the Rugby Championship albeit against other rivals… and I'm keen to do it well.

"The squad is a combination of those who featured in the Rugby Championship and a group of young players. The main idea is to have some continuity from the Rugby Championship, but also not use more than two players from each European club."

The squad to face Wales in Cardiff will gather on Sunday November 4.
