Beale not heading to League
Wallaby utility back Kurtley Beale has committed himself to Rugby Union, ending speculation that he might be crossing over to League.
Rumours were rife that Beale would quit Rugby Union after his departure from the Melbourne Rebels at the conclusion of the Super Rugby season.
Beale endured a disappointing Super Rugby campaign filled with alcohol-related incidents, including being sent home from the Rebels' South African tour after punching a teammate.
His agent has been in talks with the Waratahs and while Beale didn’t rule out a move to the NRL in the future, he said he has “unfinished business” in Rugby Union.
"Hopefully there'll be an announcement as early as next week," the 24-year-old told AAP.
"Hopefully one day I'll get the opportunity [to play in the NRL]. I'm a huge League fan, but there's still a lot of unfinished business here in Rugby Union that I want to do."
Beale, who has been in and out of rehab to fight his personal issues, admitted it’s been a tough year.
"There is a bit of disappointment and a little bit of regret. I've learned a lot from that,” he said on the season.
"It's a bit of a day-by-day process for me now, to be able to actually build on the things that I've learned from and just live."
Beale is continuing his treatment and recouperating from shoulder surgery in Sydney and feels the move back to his home town has been a positive one.
"I'm very happy with where I'm at … a big part of that is being around family and friends and the support network," he said.
"I know deep down I can play better than I have … now I've just got to be honest with myself and not take any shortcuts.
"I've got six months to knuckle down and get the body right and get the head right. Get it all settled."
