Deans hails Wallaby composure

Wallaby coach Robbie Deans believes that the composure his team showed to edge Wales out again bodes well for the future of the team.

The Wallabies secured a series whitewash over Wales with a hard-fought 20-19 victory in Sydney on Saturday, and Deans said that the most impressive aspect of the win was how his team kept calm under pressure.

He commented: "Considering how much was happening off the ball I think these guys did a good job, we showed composure at the end and I think that will service us well going forward.

"I think the leadership group has been excellent and the composure has been great and we'll carry that forward to the Rugby Championship and further into the season," he explained.

The Kiwi mentor was satisfied with the way his team managed to shut out what is a dangerous Welsh outfit, who they sent home empty-handed.

"They're a world class side. We've talked about them all series, their capacity to play, they've got threats all across the ground.

"I think it showed the desperation of both teams, the Welsh wanted to win and we wanted to finish off with a clean sweep," he said.

Wallabies skipper David Pocock said that he was impressed with the way his team reacted when they were put under pressure by  a desperate Wales side.

"They put pressure on us all day today and when we got behind them they worked hard to turn the ball over.

"They made it pretty hard for us at times and I think we frustrated them at times as well. It was two good teams going hard at it, it was a good contest," he said.

Pocock added that although it was good to get over the line and secure the series whitewash, the Rugby Championship will pose a different challenge altogether.

"I don't know how much this will count moving into the Rugby Championship, there's still a lot of rugby to be played but no doubt it's good having the group together and getting some games in to us," he said.
