The Reds’ 21-year-old scrumhalf Tate McDermott made heads turn in their match against the Waratahs, while an unlikely contender for the Wallabies’ number 10 jersey has emerged – Brumbies young gun Noah Lolesio.

Lolesio, who is drawing on the experience of Christian Lealiifano, put in a man of the match performance against the Melbourne Rebels has put him firmly in Dave Rennie’s sights. Rennie has already added the 20-year-old into this “player of national interest” squad.

Tate McDermott created a massive talking point when Super Rugby AU kicked off after his stand-out performance for the Reds against the Waratahs.

The 21-year-old needed just a few minutes to make a massive impact on the game that displayed his all-round ability, something the Wallabies have been missing since the retirement of Will Genia.

Could this be the halfback pairing in the mould of Gregan and Larkham?
