Horwill injury scare

Wallabies and Reds captain James Horwill was forced to leave the field during the Reds' 13-12 win over the Brumbies with an injury that could rule him out of the June Tests.

Horwill's leg was caught awkwardly at the bottom of a ruck, forcing the big lock forward to limp from the field with a suspected hamstring injury.

Should he spend a significant amount of time on the sideline it would come as a major blow to both the Reds and Wallabies.

Australia play a Test match against Scotland followed by a three Test series against Six Nations champions Wales during June, with no obvious replacement to take over the leadership should Horwill be unavailable.

The good news for both the Reds and Australia is that flyhalf Quade Cooper came through 80 minutes in the match, albeit without making a major mark on the match.

The win keeps the Reds in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs and with a chance to usurp the Brumbies from the top of the Australian conference.

"The win keeps us in the finals hunt," Reds coach Ewen McKenzie said.

"We've now got three games left and a bye while the Brumbies have to play four. We'll continue to go about our business and put pressure on the best we can."

Reds vice-captain Will Genia could be the man to take over leadership of both the Reds and Wallabies if Horwill is out injured.

"We spoke about having plenty of energy and enthusiasm and we had that," Genia said with regard to the victory.

"I'm very proud of the effort and we go into the bye with a good result and will come out of it with a positive attitude."
