Leali'ifano blow for Wallabies

Wallaby goal-kicker Christian Leali'ifano has been ruled out of Saturday's Bledisloe Cup Test against New Zealand with an ankle injury.

Matt Toomua is expected to start at inside centre for Australia in the Test at Dunedin's indoor stadium, while flyhalf Quade Cooper, already a target for raucous Kiwi fans, may take over the kicking duties.

Leali'ifano suffered a compression injury to his right ankle during Australia's 52-17 win over Argentina in the last match of the Rugby Championships two weeks ago.

Coach Ewen McKenzie decided on Monday to rule Leali'ifano out of selection contention.

McKenzie said the injury was to the same ankle Leali'ifano broke last year.

Back row forward Scott Fardy has also been ruled out of the match with bleeding behind one eye.

The Wallabies will base themselves in Queenstown on Wednesday and Thursday before heading to Dunedin.
