Player Ratings: Bye Bye, Cheika?

OPINION: The Wallabies have a toxic mix of outstanding talent and those who are not worthy to be in a Wallaby jersey.

After their 12-23 loss to the Springboks in Port Elizabeth, the future is not looking good for coach Michael Cheika.

Warren Fortune rates the Australian players!

15 Dane Haylett-Petty:
He gave away a couple of penalties, but he did a lot of hard and good work on attack and carried the ball more than anyone else in the match.
7/10

14 Israel Folau:
He wasn’t at his best today and it seemed the Aussies just used him under the high balls at times.
3/10

13 Reece Hodge:
He covered almost every position in the Wallabies’ backline. He had a few good carries and scored one of his team’s tries.
7/10

12 Matt Toomua:
He was supposed to be an extra playmaker in the team, but he failed.
3/10

11 Marika Koroibete:
The Wallabies failed to use him properly while he was on the field. He just didn’t have enough of the ball.
4/10

10 Kurtley Beale:
Bernard Foley will probably start the next game. Beale failed to stamp his authority on the game and made some awful mistakes.
3/10

9 Will Genia:
He scored a try and created another. Australia’s best player on the field.
8/10

8 David Pocock:
A menace at the breakdowns. He won four turnovers and he carried the ball well.
7/10

7 Michael Hooper (captain):
A high work rate on attack. He made a number of clean breaks and beat a few defenders as well.
7/10

6 Ned Hanigan:
Running around and doing nothing most of the time.
2/10

5 Izack Rodda:
He didn’t make an impact in the physical stuff.
4/10

4 Adam Coleman:
After an amazing Super Rugby season, he failed to bring that form to the Wallabies. He could have done more against the Springboks.
3/10

3 Taniela Tupou:
The ‘Tongan Thor’ was no hero for the Wallabies in Port Elizabeth.
2/10

2 Folau Fainga’a:
A scrappy performance against the Boks. He shouldn’t be playing Test rugby.
2/10

1 Scott Sio:
Another player who is letting his team and Michael Cheika down. With all his experience, he was rubbish on the field.
2/10

Replacements:

16 Brandon Paenga-Amosa (On for Folau Fainga’a, 62nd min):
He was a little more constructive on the park.
3/10

He should have stayed on the bench.
2/10
