OPINION: The Springboks beat the Wallabies 23-12 in Port Elizabeth, but Rassie Erasmus will not be happy with some of his players’ performances.

Warren Fortune rates the South African players!

15 Willie le Roux:
A poor performance from the fullback. He failed to make a real impact on attack.
4/10

14 Cheslin Kolbe:
A few big hits on defence (he missed a few as well) and he actually knocked over a few defenders with ball in hand.
6/10

13 Jesse Kriel:
Maybe there are better centres in the Currie Cup at the moment. He was poor on attack and on defence.
3/10

12 André Esterhuizen:
He did a lot of good work on defence in that midfield channel and he was physical with ball in hand.
6/10

11 Aphiwe Dyantyi:
He had a great start with that intercept try and he was a constant threat out wide. However, a made a few poor decisions out wide as well.
7/10

10 Handré Pollard:
His accurate boot kept the scoreboard ticking over. He beat a few defenders with ball in hand and he set up Faf de Klerk’s try.
7/10

9 Francois de Klerk:
His kicking game was poor, but he provided his team with some quick service and he got a five-pointer. He gave away a few penalties as well
5/10

8 Sikhumbuzo Notshe:
He hid his fair share of work on defence and he had a few strong carries as well.
5/10

7 Pieter-Steph du Toit:
Another incredible shift on defence from the big guy. Some of the Aussie players will be in pain after that game. He was also a hard man to bring down with ball in hand.
7/10

6 Siyamthanda Kolisi (captain):
A great all-round game by the captain. He made his presence felt at the breakdowns and won a few turnovers. He also had a number of good carries with ball in hand.
8/10

5 Franco Mostert:
Most of his work was on defence in this game.
5/10

4 Eben Etzebeth:
A big presence in the mauls, both on attack and on defence. He stole a few line-out balls as well.
6/10

3 Frans Malherbe:
He went missing for large periods of the game.
3/10

2 Malcolm Marx:
He came to life in the second half and he was one of his team’s best defenders.
6/10

1 Tendai Mtawarira:
It wasn’t one of his best performances in the Bok jersey.
4/10

Replacements:

16 Mbongeni Mbonambi (On for Malcolm Marx, 70th min):
Not enough time to be rated.

He put the Wallabies under pressure in the scrums.
5/10

18 Wilco Louw (On for Frans Malherbe, 62nd min):
Solid in the scrums, not much else to talk about.
