Player ratings: Nothing going right
The Wallabies suffered a heartbreaking blow as they succumbed to the All Blacks 29-28 after the final hooter in Brisbane on Saturday.
The Australians came out firing scoring an early try and then set the pace for most of the game, only for the All Blacks to claw their way back.
The New Zealanders battled hard with the Wallabies who looked determined to turn their fortunes around after a controversial two weeks.
Leading with the 80 minutes up on the clock the Wallabies hearts were broken as Malakai Fekitoa slid over the try line to bring the game within a point.
Colin Slade then stepped up to convert the try and win the game, piling more misery onto the Wallabies.
We rate the Wallabies!
15 Israel Folau
Dependable from the back but would have liked more chances with ball in hand in the first half, looked more spritely in the second as he stretched his legs.
7/10
14 Adam Ashley-Cooper
Ran the defence of the team well and stuck his tackles, made a good number of runs even getting a try on his 100th.
8/10
13 Tevita Kuridrani
Was huge in defence, put in some bone-jarring hits and looked impossible to bring down on attack as he racked up the metres.
9/10
12 Christian Leali'ifano
Looked to hit the line hard but was not as effective as he has been in the Gold jersey before.
6/10
11 Joe Tomane
A hard working wing, coming off his side in search of things to do but did not get much space to get his pace up.
6/10
10 Bernard Foley
Ran the show pretty well feeding a number of different runners and was aware enough to secure his short range try.
7/10
9 Nick Phipps
Was bustling and busy, set a high tempo that the Wallabies managed to keep up with, his decision making was spot on to.
8/10
8 Scott Higginbotham
Tried to get very involved but made a number of silly mistakes, he also only contributed one tackle all game but was a busy attacking option.
6/10
7 Michael Hooper (captain)
Captains innings if there ever was one, looked determined in everything he did – and he did everything.
9/10
6 Scott Fardy
Played really well towards the ball and forced a number of critical turn overs as well as his excellent carrying which made the Wallabies plenty of metres.
9/10
5 Rob Simmons
Looked slow and ineffective but did his job as it was needed.
4/10
4 Sam Carter
May have seemed quiet, but was very busy defensively.
6/0
3 Sekope Kepu
Did his best to hold the scrum up but he was lacking his usual bustling runs.
5/10
2 Saia Fainga'a
May be low down in the pecking order but did not let his team down with decent amount of tackles and carries.
6/10
1 James Slipper
Was pinned by the ref all night at scrum time as he struggled against Owen Franks, but he was immense in the loose play making almost 10 carries and plenty of metres.
7/10
Replacements:
16 Josh Mann-Rea (on for Fainga'a, 71 mins)
Not enough time to be rated.
17 Benn Robinson (on for Slipper, 66 mins)
Replaced Slipper and sorted out the scrum, but did very little else.
5/10
18 Ben Alexander (on for Kepu, 63 mins)
Did not do too much with his time on the park, four carries but barley moved forward in them – he did help sure up the scrum.
4/10
19 James Horwill (on for Carter, 63 mins)
Made a decent impact on his home ground both in carrying the ball and in his tackles.
6/10
20 Matt Hodgson (on for Higginbotham, 60 mins)
Big impact when he arrived, poaching the ball and putting in the big hits – such an underrated player.
7/10
21 Nic White (on for Phipps, 53 mins)
Maintained the good work that Phipps started but it was clear the Wallabies were starting to tire when he arrived.
6/10
22 Quade Cooper
Not used.
23 Rob Horne
Not used.
