Player ratings: Oz don't like the wet

In shocking conditions things were always going to be tough, but the Australians looked miserable and clearly didn't enjoy cold and the rain.

The Wallabies have never played at the Ausgrid Stadium in Newcastle before, and I doubt they'll be back if that's the kind of weather they get.

For a team that likes fast quick ball to unleash the backline this game was a disaster, with  slow forward orientated rugby the order of the day.

Any backs looking to catch coach Robbie Deans' attention had no chance.

rugby365.com rates the Wallabies players:

15 Luke Morahan:

knocked the ball on in the tough conditions several times and had little to no opportunity to run.

3/10

14 Joe Tomane:

Looked willing to run and get stuck in and while he had limited opportunities, he was up for it and showed some promise.

5/10

13 Anthony Fainga'a:

Made some big tackles and had a willingness to join the rucks where needed to offer an extra body, which was all you could ask from the man.

7/10

12 Mike Harris:

Kicked for goal pretty well considering the wind and rain, but didn't do much else.

4/10

11 Digby Ioane:

Made on terrific line-break and was just about the only Aussie in the backs who looked like he might be able to do something exciting. Tackled well and floated about looking for work.

7/10

10 Berrick Barnes:

Struggled terribly to play in the conditions and chose to run himself with the pass and kick too risky. Did a fine job of holding the ball on the kicking-tee for Harris.

5/10

9 Will Genia:

A poor day at the office by his standards and couldn't deal with the cold. Spent a lot of time shivering and fumbled the wet ball as though it were a bar of soap too often.

4/10

8 Scott Higginbotham:

Worked hard and made yards in close contact with ball in hand.

7/10

7 David Pocock (captain):

Couldn't have asked for much more in this match and he was excellent on defence and creating turnovers.

8/10

6 Dave Dennis:

Worked hard and made his tackles, while he struggled to break the advantage as at first receiver as often as he would have liked.

7/10

5 Nathan Sharpe:

Top notch effort from the veteran, who attended more rucks than an other Wallaby and did countless pick & go drives for his team.

8/10

4 Sitaleki Timani:

Was anonymous for most of the match and then was substituted.

3/10

3 Dan Palmer:

Was solid without being amazing in the scrums and was effective at the breakdowns – didn't let anybody down.

6/10

2 Stephen Moore:

Did well in the line-outs considering the wind and was great in the tight phases of the match with ball in hand.

8/10

1 James Slipper:

Slow and cumbersome and was the man to give away the penalty in the scrum that gave Scotland the winning kick at goal.

3/10

17 Ben Alexander (On for Dan Palmer, 70th min):

Not long enough to be rated accurately.

18 Rob Simmons (On for Sitaleki Timani, 55th min):

Thought he'd scored a try after driving over from short range and did his best to get stuck into the tough stuff up front.

6/10

Not long enough to be rated.
