Retallick banking on more line-out dominance

RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP SPOTLIGHT: The Wallabies are set for another tough time in the line-outs when they face the All Blacks in Auckland on Saturday.

All Blacks locks Brodie Retallick and Samuel Whitelock won seven turnovers in that area in New Zealand’s 38-13 win in the first Bledisloe Cup tie of the year in Sydney last weekend.

Retallick believes a week is not enough time for the Wallabies to rectify the issue.

“If it was from our point of view, I think we’d probably change the way we approached it and maybe vary a few options up,” he said.

“But at the same time, they’ve only got a week to turn it around.

“No doubt there will be things that they want to work on and try and be better at, just like we are.”

The scrums will also be an area of concern for the Wallabies after they gave away a number of penalties in that facet in Sydney.

“In Test rugby you need a set piece to operate and strike off, to get yourself in the game,” Retallick said.

“Obviously they’ll want to adjust and fix that.

“We had to fight it out for the first 20-30 minutes. We were under a lot of pressure and then things started to click.”
