The South African, who became a crowd favourite in Sydney during the Waratahs' 2014 Super Rugby title run, has been ruled out through injury and won't line up for Alan Jones' side at Allianz Stadium.

Potgieter will be replaced with Wycliff Palu.

Palu made 139 appearances for the Waratahs over a 13-year span and having retired from international rugby last year with 57 Test caps, he will now line up against Australia on Saturday.

Michael Ruru and Sef Faagase, who featured in the Barbarians' narrow win over the Classic Wallabies at Lismore, have also been ruled out through injuries suffered on Tuesday.

The Barbarians are set to name the 23 that will take on the Wallabies on Thursday.
