Stats - Super 14, Week 4
Again we give some statistics from the seven matches played in the Super 14, Week 4 with totals which tell us Crusaders have scored the most tries and conceded the most free kicks, the Hurricanes have been most penalised and the Bulls have been in most hot water.
We have already given statistics for Six Nations, Round 4. We shall do law discussions on both competitions and there are clips of some incidents on www.sareferees.co.za.
Sanctions
There was a red card in this weekend’s Super 14 – for Zane Kirchner of the Bulls for a “spear” tackle. That this happened and is obviously compared with the more lenient treatment of other such tackles and then the vagaries of citing and non-citing the issue of the spear tackle clearly needs urgent attention in an effort to get some form of consistency which is a component of justice. One thing is certain – the spear tackle is not going away.
There were yellow cards there were be citings.
The yellow cards this week went to Ma’a Nonu, Bakkies Botha. Tyrone Smith, Sitiveni Sivivatu and Eddie Fredericks.
Nonu, Botha and Jerry Collins were cited. Only Nonu was found guilty and suspended – for a week. His high tackle was gross. Fredericks was no cited.
Previously Digby Ioane, Dewald Potgieter, Daniel Bowden and JP Nel had been cited for dangerous tackles, but Anthony Tuitavake, Sireli Naqelevuki, Mark Chisholm, Francis Fainifo, John Afoa, Quade Cooper, Sivivatu and David Pocock, all of whom were penalised. That means that somebody saw them. They were not invisible.
