Wallaby playmaker extends Brumbies stay

NEWS: Brumbies and Wallabies flyhalf Noah Lolesio has signed a one-year contract extension until 2025.

This will be music to Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt’s ears after the departure of a few youngsters, most notably wing Mark Nawaqanitawase and fellow Wallaby playmaker Carter Gordon to a code switch in Rugby League.

He’s a product of the Australian Rugby pathway system, who also played for the Junior Wallabies in 2019 at inside centre.

Lolesio made his Brumbies debut in 2020 and guided his side to the Super Rugby AU title and went on to make his Test debut under former coach Dave Rennie the same year.

Eyebrows were raised when he wasn’t selected for the 2023 World by former coach Eddie Jones with Carter Gordon being the only recognized flyhalf in the Wallabies squad.

This promoted a short stint with French outfit Toulon as a medical joker before re-signing with the Brumbies in 2024.

“Canberra has been home for me since moving from Brisbane to join the Brumbies Academy in 2018,” Lolesio said.

“It’s a place that has continued to helped me grow as a person on and off the field.

“The next period in Australian Rugby presents some once in a career opportunities and I’ll be working hard to give myself the best possible chance to be a part of them but for now my focus is on finishing off the Super Rugby Pacific season in a positive fashion,” Lolesio added.
