VIDEO: Yapp reveals what made Bok Women so difficult to stop

REACTION: Springbok Women’s physicality was extremely challenging combat says Wallaroos coach Jo Yapp after the WXV 2 clash at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

Yapp’s team started the match in fine form, racing to a 21-5 lead after 15 minutes of play.

The Wallaroos had chances to extend their lead before the break, but individual errors coupled with the relentless defence from the Bok Women limited their efforts.

Wings Desiree Miller and Maya Stewart both scored tries in the second half and appeared to have settled the match with a 33-12 lead.

However, an incredible comeback by the Bok Women saw them score two tries and fight for a draw.

It took a last-ditch steal by Ash Marsters to ensure the 33-26 win.

“The last few minutes were tough to watch,” said Wallaroos coach Jo Yapp after the match in Cape Town.

“In the first half, we created a lot of opportunities but did not convert. We also had those couple of tries disallowed because of the groundings and that kept South Africa in it.”

It was the first time Yapp coached the Australian side against the Bok Women and it was also the first time the hosts scored tries against the visitors.

The Bok Women scored four tries during the match and Yapp revealed that the physicality of the hosts made the job difficult.

“We always knew that the Springbok Women would come out really hard at us.

“They’re a very physical side and they didn’t disappoint. They took the game to us for the full 80 which was tough.”

She added: “We always knew they are a very passionate rugby nation and the physicality they brought was tough to stop.”

The Wallaroos face another stern test when they take on Scotland in the WXV 2 Grand Final next week.
