Women: Great win for Canada
Canada beat France 14-5 in Dijon on Wednesday, a great win for the Canadians who had not beaten France for 11 years and France were placed third at the 2006 Women’s Rugby World Cup when they beat Canada.
In the 2010 World Cup in England, Canada and France’s will be in the same pool.
There was no score in the error-ridden first half but Canada started to get on top in the second half and were the first to score when lock Araba Chintoh dived over following a break by scrumhalf Julia Sugawara off a turnover.
Canada scored again when outside centre Cheryl Phillips went over to give Canada a 14-0 lead.
Late in the match France tapped a penalty under the Canadian posts and Fanny Horta scored under the posts, only for the conversion to go awry.
Canada play France again on Saturday, this time at Stade de France as a curtainraiser to the Test between France and Samoa.
