Eddie Jones' big captain dilemma as Boks await
SQUAD UPDATE: It seems like the England captain’s armband is likely to be handed to Owen Farrell following RFU’s latest news.
RFU released a statement that blind side flank Courtney Lawes will not join the England squad for their training camp next week.
Lawes, who was England’s captain for the tour of Australia in July despite Owen Farrell’s return to fitness, has been sidelined due to a concussion he sustained in September while playing for Northampton Saints.
A head injury also saw the flank miss the start for this year’s Six Nations.
The Guardian newspaper reported that Eddie Jones does not plan to announce his captain until the eve of the series with England’s first match against Argentina scheduled for November 6 at Twickenham.
However, he remains confident that Lawes will be ready to face Argentina.
Meanwhile, London Irish’s Tom Pearson has been called-up and will meet up with the squad on Monday for the five-day camp.
Jones’ side continue preparations for their four home Nations Series fixtures while in Jersey. First up is Argentina at Twickenham Stadium on Sunday, November 6.
England then host Japan (Saturday, November 12) before taking on New Zealand (Saturday, November 19) and world champions South Africa (Saturday, November 26).
