England release ten players to clubs

Stuart Lancaster has released 10 players back to their clubs after two days of England’s training camp in Leeds in preparation for the November internationals.

Dave Attwood, Freddie Burns, Luther Burrell, Danny Care, Kyle Eastmond, Ben Foden, Alex Goode, Tom Johnson, Matt Kvesic and Christian Wade will all return to their domestic teams over the course of the next 24 hours.

While Lancaster was obliged to do so under the terms for the Elite Player agreement, the England head coach is intending for those released to get crucial game time ahead of three Test matches on successive Saturdays, starting with Australia on November 2.

“Under the terms of the Elite Player Squad agreement we are releasing 10 players back, some of whom will play in the Premiership this weekend,” Lancaster said.

“There are still places to play for and we won’t finalise the side to play Australia until much closer to the game, not least because of the matches this coming weekend, so it’s a chance for those going back to stake a final claim for inclusion in the 23.”

Lancaster also outlined his satisfaction with the training camp so far, which still has two days remaining. With the broad objectives to reconnect as a group socially and reinforce the England way of doing things from a tactical and technical perspective, Lancaster said he has completed individual meetings with each of the 34 players.

He added: “It has been good to get into camp and spend some time with the players. I have met all of them individually and today they had forwards’ and backs’ meetings, followed by a positive training session at West Park Leeds.”

England will train again at West Park Leeds on Wednesday and Thursday before reassembling on Sunday at their Pennyhill Park training base to prepare for the Wallabies.
