Proudfoot gets a new role in South Africa
NEWS: Stellenbosch University confirmed that former Springbok assistant coach Matt Proudfoot will join the Maties for next season’s Varsity Cup.
Proudfoot will join Maties after parting ways with England after three years.
The 50-year-old Proudfoot was part of Eddie Jones’ coaching staff and will return to South Africa following the axing of Jones.

Proudfoot, who played four Tests as a prop for Scotland, was part of Rassie Erasmus’ backroom staff during the Springboks’ victorious 2019 Rugby World Cup campaign in Japan.
The forward guru will take up the role of a Consultant head coach at Maties after the exit of head coach Norman Jordaan.
Jordaan will join the Western Province.
Maties have been crowned the Varsity Cup champions five times, while they have also lost in five finals, the most recent of which came in 2022 when they went down 23-29 to UP-Tuks.
The Varsity Cup kicks off on February 20.
