Lancaster bolsters squad

England coach Stuart Lancaster has added nine players to his squad for the November Tests, who will provide cover in case of injuries.

Lancaster had the option of bolstering his 33-man group after the weekend round of European matches and has added some depth for the Twickenham matches against New Zealand, South Africa, Samoa and Australia.

Exeter trio Dave Ewers, Henry Slade and Thomas Waldrom are joined by Northampton pair Ben Foden and Alex Waller, Bath duo Henry Thomas and Anthony Watson, Gloucester's Matt Kvesic and Richard Wigglesworth of Saracens.

Ewers, Slade and Waldrom go into the squad as injury cover for Wasps back-row James Haskell, Northampton centre Luther Burrell and Saracens back-row Billy Vunipola respectively.

Burrell suffered a hand injury during Northampton's 34-6 European Champions Cup win over Ospreys and fellow centre Manu Tuilagi has already been ruled out of the All Blacks game because of a recurring groin problem.

"Luther will be assessed by a specialist and our medics are in close contact with Saints, so we'll know more in a few days but it's great to be able to bring in Henry.

"Billy will undergo the 'return to play protocol' with us and will resume training once he has completed that.

"We always anticipated bringing in additional players following the European games, either to cover injuries or for training.

"Injuries are inevitable but we are excited about the group we have in camp. We are raring to go and looking forward to getting out on the training pitch," Lancaster said.

Vunipola is recovering from concussion suffered in Saracens' European defeat by Munster on Friday, while Haskell is still getting over a viral infection.

Foden, Kvesic, Watson and Wigglesworth will also train with the squad as cover for the players involved in Sunday's European games.

Thomas and Waller have been added as cover for front row forwards David Wilson and Joe Marler, who have calf and thigh injuries respectively.

Tom Wood has remained in Northampton with his wife, pending the birth of their third child, and will join the squad later this week.
