Launchbury answers England SOS

London Wasps lock Joe Launchbury has been called into the England camp as temporary injury cover for Tom Palmer (calf).

Launchbury will spend Monday in recovery, following Sunday's Premiership Round Eight match against Saracens and will train with the squad on Tuesday.

England head coach Stuart Lancaster said Palmer's training was limited last week because of the calf injury.

"We are bring Joe in as a precaution and because of the form he has shown recently," Lancaster said.

“We know that he will fit in to the squad well having played in the Barbarians match and  in the preparation for the South Africa tour."

Launchbury's call-up comes just a day after England called up Freddie Burns and Billy Twelvetrees to their training squad ahead of Saturday's Test against Fiji at Twickenham.

Burns replaced Jordan Turner-Hall, who will stay at Harlequins for treatment on an inflamed knee, while Twelvetrees joined in as temporary injury cover for Jonathan Joseph (ankle).
