Manu to lead from the front
Experienced Fiji prop Deacon Manu will lead his country in their Test against England at Twickenham on Saturday, team officials have announced.
The 33-year-old, who plays his club rugby for Welsh regional side the Scarlets, previously captained Fiji on their 2010 tour of Europe and also led the side at last year's World Cup.
Born in New Plymouth, New Zealand, Manu has appeared in 12 Tests for Fiji since making his Test debut, against Scotland, in 2009.
Prior to moving to Wales six years ago, Manu played for the Waikato Chiefs and represented New Zealand Maoris against the touring British and Irish Lions in 2005.
Fiji coach Inkike Male said Manu, who can play both sides of the scrum but prefers operating as a tighthead prop, would lead from the front against an England side who pride themselves on their set-piece forward strength.
"Manu has led the team before and has shown good leadership skills," said Male.
"With his experience and the respect the boys have in him, I am confident that he has the qualities in him to not only lead the front row, but the whole team," he added.
Fiji are due to name their matchday 22 to face England on Wednesday.
