Oxford win yet again
The score in the 2015 match was 43-6 to Oxford, a record. There were 49 points scored. This time there were a meagre 18 points scored, none of them from a try. Four kicks to two kicks.
It was certainly a match that Cambridge could have won, especially after their early quarter of the match when they were clearly the dominate side who came within less than a metre of the Oxford line.
In addition, in the opening three, nonstop minutes, Oxford lost their captain Henry Lamont injured in trying to tackle the muscular Welshman Jamie Roberts.
Roberts himself did not make it into the second half, for he, a medical science student, went off with a dead leg.
Oxford scored first through a George Cullen penalty and considerable later in the half portly Don Stevens levelled the scores to 3-all with a penalty. That was the half-time score.
A second Stevens penalty put the Light Blues ahead in the second half but then Cullen booted his side on to victory.

*Cambridge ran away with the women's match, quite literally. Their two stars, fullback Alice Middleton and inside centre, Anna Wilson, scored five tries between then, two long-range tries. Anna Wilson scored won from 58 metres out and Middleton one firm 65 metres out for her hat-trick try. But for those two it would have been a dull match.
At half-time the score was only 12-0 and Oxford had a good start to the second half but could not break last year's record of 47-0 by racing on to 52-0.
It was not only in the running of those two backs but also in the scrums that Cambridge were dominant.
It was the 29th Women'S Varsity Match and the first played at Twickenham.
