Six Nations Referees 2018
There are 15 matches. Only four of them are refereed by Southern Hemisphere referees – Angus Gardner of Australia, Glen Jackson and Ben O'Keeffe of New Zealand and Jaco Peyper. The four French referees appointed will referees six of the matches with Jérôme Garcès and Pascal Gaüzère each refereeing two matches. Wayne Barnes and Nigel Owens will also referee two matches each.
This is not because it is a Northern Hemisphere tournament. The Rugby Championship is played in the Southern Hemisphere and of the 13 matches in 2017, nine were refereed by Northern referees, only four by men from the South. Of the championship referees four were French – Jérôme Garcès, Romain Poite, Pascal Gaüzère and Mathieu Raynal. Garcès and Wayne Barnes each refereed two of the matches.
