Injured Welsh wing ruled out for months

NEWS: Welsh wing Mason Grady will undergo surgery and is set to miss out on the rest of Wales’ Nation Series matches.

Wales coach Warren Gatland will need a reshuffle ahead of the clash with Australia on Sunday but has not called a back-up to join his squad.

Grady, who underwent scans on Monday, has been ruled out for two months with an ankle injury after he limped off after just 17 minutes of Wales’ defeat to Fiji.

He was subsequently replaced by Sam Costelow but Gatland has demanded answers to the breakdown of communication with his technical team as Ellis Bevan was supposed to replace Grady.

The injury will likely also rule Grady out of a handful of Cardiff’s Welsh derbies and opening Challenge Cup fixtures.

Grady’s absence will be a blow to Gatland, who is now under pressure to decide on a replacement as they prepare to avoid an 11th consecutive defeat against Australia on Sunday.
