On January 31, Dakuwaqa was questioned by police after scrumhalf Pierre Pages was hospitalised with injuries to his cheek.

“Biarritz announces the immediate termination of Masivesi Dakuwaqa’s contract,” they said.

“Following an internal investigation by the club, the allegations against Masivesi Dakuwaqa have made it impossible for him to continue his commitment to the club.

“By mutual consent, it was decided to end his association with Biarritz,” they added.

A legal investigation has been opened by local authorities following the incident described as “serious” by the club.

Back-rower Dakuwaqa, 30, joined Biarritz this season after spells with other French outfits in Toulon and Montpellier.

After winning gold in 2016, Fijian Dakuwaqa made his only 15-a-side international appearance in November 2021.
