The South African, who won the Under-19 World Cup in 2005, is an experienced campaigner and has also played in 16 European competition matches since 2012.

The 29-year-old came up through the system at the Sharks, before moving to the Johannesburg-based Lions and finally Welsh side Llanelli Scarlets.

Snyman becomes the third signing for Brive after recruiting scrumhalf Teddy Iribaren from Montpellier and back row forward William Whetton from Castres.

Clermont play Stade Francais in the final match of the season for the French title at the Stade de France in Paris on Saturday.
