Clermont lures All Black flyer

French club Clermont have signed All Black wing Hosea Gear on a two-year deal from the Chiefs.

The 31-year-old Gear, who played 14 Tests and scored six tries for the All Blacks from 2008-12, completes Clermont's recruitment campaign for next season – following the arrivals of Springbok Flip van der Merwe, French international Scott Spedding, Waisake Naholo (Highlanders), David Strettle (England), Adrien Plante and Camille Gerondeau.

Gear is returning to France, where he already played one season for Toulouse in 2013 and 2014.

Clermont finished runners-up to Stade Francais in the Top 14, after being handed their 11th defeat in 12 French finals last weekend.

Clermont were also beaten by Toulon in the Champions Cup final in May.
