TRANSFER NEWS: England international Steffon Armitage has signed a two-year deal with French second tier side Biarritz, the club announced on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old was without a club, having left Top 14 side Pau in June.

Armitage, who grew up in the south of France, began his professional career with English side Saracens before moving to London Irish.

He played five times for England before moving in 2011 to Top 14 side Toulon where he won three European championships as well as the French title.

The move to France, however, signalled the end of his international career with then England coach Stuart Lancaster refusing to pick players who did not play for English clubs.

In September Armitage was found guilty of sexual assault and handed a suspended six-month prison sentence for groping a woman outside a bar.

Biarritz are currently seventh in the second tier Pro D2.
